The HelmholtzZentrum München (HMGU) and the Telematics Platform of Medical Research Networks (TMF) have developped a concept to link biobanks that have been chosen by selected competence networks and the NGFN (National Genome Research Network) to use them more effeciently. With a selection of adequate biobanks a model concept was set up and put into practice. We integrated biobanks of the competence networks pediatric oncology and hematology, dementia, heart insufficiency, sepsis, Parkinson and HIV/AIDS.

A central contact point was established for requesting for biomaterials that forwards project applications of external partners to the corresponding network. The quality criteria of the Biobanking and Biomolecular Resources Research Infrastructure (BBMRI) are taken into account to integrate it as the German contribution to the European Biobanking Initiative BBMRI.
