About us
The RWTH cBMB is the central Biomaterial Bank (cBMB) of the University Hospital of the RWTH Aachen – a maximum care hospital with 36 clinics and 28 institutes. cBMB collects and processes a wide variety of biospecimens such as blood, urine and tissue with the application of high-quality standards.
cBMB aims to support research projects focussing on oncological, cardiological and neurological diseases.
338,151 aliquots (as of September 1st, 2023) are currently stored in liquid nitrogen tanks or -80 °C freezers. cBMB's strict quality management system ensures optimal processes, from semi-automated sample processing through storage to reprocessing and output for research purposes, in compliance with all data protection guidelines. It is supported by a central biosample management system (CentraXX) as well as its own IT infrastructure. cBMB thus provides an ideal basis for close networking of the sample and data pool within the framework of the German Biobank Alliance (GBA).
