About us
The Interdisciplinary Biomaterial Bank and Database Würzburg (ibdw) is a joint facility of the University of Würzburg and the University Hospital Würzburg. Its aim is to systematically collect liquid and solid biosamples using “Broad Consent” and storing them according to the highest quality standards in the long-term (OECD/ ISBER Recommendations 2012 & 2014). The samples are acquired from inpatients and outpatients from all clinics of the University Hospital Würzburg.
The ibdw also acts as a cooperation partner and service provider for the storage and administration of study-specific biosamples from academic institutions and clinics of the Medical Campus Würzburg as well as national collaborative projects. In future, analytical services will also be provided for local and national academic institutions or third parties (including the pharmaceutical industry).
Access to the biospecimens and associated analytical and clinical core data is available to local, national and international applicants, in compliance with all ethical standards and applicable data protection laws. The interdisciplinary and integrative approach of the biobank makes it an internationally competitive service and method platform for basic research and clinical research.
Within the German Biobank Alliance (GBA), ibdw is particularly involved in the work packages “ELSI” and “Stakeholder Engagement”. Furthermore it represents the German interests in the Common Service ELSI of the European association BBMRI-ERIC. ibdw is involved in various comprehensive biobank projects for the standardisation and evaluation of biobanks within the scope of the German Biobank Alliance.
